Friday's Fantastic Featured Quote-CHOCOLATE- !!

Chocolate Fudge
Hello to all my Coffee Cottage fans!!! It's a beautiful day and I have some fantastic featured quotes for this Friday......(try and say that really, really fast ten times without making a mistake!!) Today's topic is chocolate,so please leave your favorite "sweet" to share with the rest of us "chocoholics"!!!

Chocolate Mocha
Giving chocolate to others is an intimate form of communication, a sharing of deep, dark secrets Milton Zelman, publisher of "Chocolate News"

A chocolate in the mouth is worth two on the plate.

If it ain't chocolate, it ain't breakfast!

There's nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with CHOCOLATE
Linda Grayson, "The Pickwick Papers"

"Liquidum non frangit jejunum." ([chocolate] liquids, amongst them, do not constitute a break in fasting.)
Cardinal Francis Maria Brancaccio of the Vatican, 1662

Chocolate: Here today .... Gone today!

Chocolate causes certain endocrine glands to secrete hormones that affect your feelings and behavior by making you happy. Therefore, it counteracts depression, in turn reducing the stress of depression. Your stress-free life helps you maintain a youthful disposition, both physically and mentally. So, eat lots of chocolate! Elaine Sherman, Book of Divine Indulgences

Forget love-- I'd rather fall in chocolate!!!

I never met a chocolate I didn't like. Deanna Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation

Nobody knows the truffles I've seen!

Caramels are only a fad. Chocolate is a permanent thing Milton Snavely Hershey

A true chocolate lover finds ways to accommodate his passion and make it work with his lifestyle. One key, not just to keeping weight down and staying guilt-free, but also to keeping taste buds sharp (essential for the professionals who evaluate new products as well as judge recipes), Is being discriminating. Julie Davis of the Los Angeles Times, 10/30/85

*And remember The Coffee Cottage has all the chocolate you need to satisfy that "sweet tooth", whether it's a delicious, creamy mocha, or a chunk of rich, indulgent, chocolate fudge.

Last Thursday our topic was the five senses of hospitality and we discussed the first sense which is "sight". The next sense of hospitality is "smell".......one of our strongest senses!!!

The smell of fresh bread and hot coffee, is a universal perfume of comfort.
Hint: Real flowers are not only a decorative accent, but also add the aroma of their own that is both delicate and delightful!

Scenting Hint: 1.)A great way to scent your home is to put a cotton ball scented with your favorite potpurri or essential oil and pop it in the bag of your vacuum cleaner. 2.)Rub a bit of essentail oil on unfinished areas of furniture such as; underneath your coffee or end table.

~Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)

2.)I think we all pray to the first cup of the day. It's a silent prayer, sung while the mind is still foggy and blue. "O Magic Cup," it might go, "carry me above the traffic jam. Keep me civil in the subway. And forgive my employer, as you forgive me. Amen"
~Stewert Lee Allen

3.)Only one thing is certain about coffee.... Wherever it is grown, sold, brewed, and consumed, there will be lively controversy, strong opinions, and good conversation.

~Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., "Over the Teacups," 1891

5.)Coffee is the best thing to douse the sunrise with.
~Drew Sirtors

6.)Over second and third cups flow matters of high finance, high state, common gossip and low comedy. From roadside mugs to the classic demi-tasse, it is the perfect democrat.

Five Hospitality Senses

When you walk into a room in your home and it " feels good", then you know that all five of the hospitality senses have been firmly established , SEE, TASTE,HEAR, SMELL, and TOUCH. These are great hospitality secrets! Being aware of the five senses should always be in the back of your mind when you are decorating or preparing to entertain. When guests enter a room in your home, you want them to see something attractive right? So let's talk about some ideas that would make a home more attractive
                                                                       "sight wise".

First, you want to make a clean and orderly" first impression". Even if you don't have a lot of nick~ knacks to decorate with, the clean and  neat appearance of your home will immediately set your guest at ease!!

Second, arrange something that is pleasing to the eye, it doesn't take a lot of work.......just a little experimentation. You can find great ideas from magazines, and decorating websites. One of my favorite sites is: theoldpaintedcottage.com                If your like me, you can see a wonderful idea and then totally forget it later!! A great way to avoid this, is to create your own idea book. All you need is a medium size spiral notebook, plastic page covers, and a pair of scissor or a handy little cutting tool from a srapbook store......then when you find an idea cut it out or write it down and put it in your book!! It also makes a great conversation piece if you put it on a coffee table for guests to look at!!

Thank you for stopping by The Coffee Cottage and remember~                                                                                                        "If bad decorating was a hanging offense, there'd be bodies hanging from every tree! "
Sylvester Stallone.......(so don't be afraid to try:)

Friday's Featured Quote

"Hospitality is a gift of time that says, "welcome into our home, welcome into our day."
That also means that we should decorate our homes not to impress people, but to offer a sense of sanctuary from the outside world and a place of peace for the souls of those who live and visit here."

Hospitality Begins at the Porch!!

~Hospitality Begins at the Door~
Your front porch is  the first impression of what's awaiting inside. You want your guests to feel like you are rolling out the red carpet for them. Here are some ideas that can make your house more "guest friendly".
1.For appearance add your street number to a front gate or the most visible side of  the house, this neatly marks your street address so as to be seen clearly from a distance this is not only a practical but also a decorative consideration!!:)

Notice this house also has a monogram of the last initial for a unique, and decorative touch.
<--------------
2.Once your guests have located your address it's nice to direct to the door you wish them to use. Many houses have multiple entrances and you may want your guests using just one entrance. Begin by anchoring your walkway with an urn of overflowing flowers(flowers greeting a guest are a universal sign of welcome). A lighted pathway with hurricane lanterns or solar lamps is great idea during the evening or special events. Monkey grass or pincushions lining the walk will also direct your guests on a daily basis.

3.Make sure the walkway, porch, & steps, are swept clean and look cared for. A clean entrance is a sure sign of a homey welcome! Glass that sparkles, cobwebs and critters chased away, are all telltale signs that the people that live just beyond the door care about their home and environment.

4.A clean, attractive doormat makes for a good first impression. Also be creative and bring some of the "indoors out", using a small inexpensive rug to soften the line between the world of outdoors & indoors!!

Change up your porch to fit the season!!!

5.Above all else, take time and enjoy your porch, there's nothing like a cheery wave to a neighbor next door or friendly chat over a glass of iced tea!

Thank you for visiting The Coffee Cottage, see you next time!!

Is your coffee & dessert holding hands or fighting for center stage?!

Have you ever had guests over and we're about to serve up a luscious chocolate, caramel ,cheesecake, and then all of the sudden......you panic.........your mind races.......you think, "I wonder if the roast of my coffee will be palatable with this dessert?!!!"
Now most of us wouldn't bother with such trivialities right? We are just glad there's something to serve our  guests and relieved the house is in half-way decent order! But in the world of coffee and food, the two really go hand in hand. So here's a tip for you to try next time you have company, or maybe to try on your unsuspecting hubby or boyfriend!!! *evil laugh*
**When serving a rich dessert such as, a German chocolate cake -compliment with a medium roast coffee.
You want your dessert and coffee to blend and compliment the other, with the dessert as the featured highlight.
**When serving a light dessert such as, a light fruit pastry or a biscotti- compliment with a very light roast.
Your ultimate goal here is to have the coffee just a little less than the dessert your serving!!!
  Have fun!!!
Stop by today to try our freshly made  shortbread-almond biscotti!!!
Until next time remember, friends don't let friends drink coffee alone!:)

It's a wonderful day at The Coffee Cottage.
Let me take you on a virtual tour around the shop.
The enticing aroma of freshly ground coffee beans teases your nose as you step in the door, there's a low hum of customers visiting over a steaming cups of espresso or tea, mixed with the soft notes of background music. In a corner on your right there's a cozy nook with some over-stuffed chairs keeping watch over the fireplace. On the hearth there's a photo album, that catalogs all the steps and fun memories The Coffee Cottage has made in it's short five months of existence (you may find your photo there in future)!!! As you move through the shop you will discover some unique things that make up the decor and atmosphere of this cozy shop.....such as my friendly tumbleweed "Turquino"aka "Turq"(which is the name of a coffee bean out of Cuba)......in the next seating area your eyes will be drawn to the large burlap coffee bags on the wall , stamped with coffee brands  from around the world....(if only they could talk)!!! After drinking the world's best coffee you may need to make a trip to the famous powder room.....I like to call this room " a cowboy's escape", due to the fact that I have a stuffed" John Wayne" in the tub, he doesn't officially have a name as of yet so you can name him anything you like, while you're visiting!! This just about completes our virtual tour for now. There's a whole lot more that I had to leave out,but I'm going to make you come and find out for yourself!!:) Thanks for visiting The Coffee Cottage:)
