Friday's Featured Quote

"Hospitality is a gift of time that says, "welcome into our home, welcome into our day."
That also means that we should decorate our homes not to impress people, but to offer a sense of sanctuary from the outside world and a place of peace for the souls of those who live and visit here."

Hospitality Begins at the Porch!!

~Hospitality Begins at the Door~
Your front porch is  the first impression of what's awaiting inside. You want your guests to feel like you are rolling out the red carpet for them. Here are some ideas that can make your house more "guest friendly".
1.For appearance add your street number to a front gate or the most visible side of  the house, this neatly marks your street address so as to be seen clearly from a distance this is not only a practical but also a decorative consideration!!:)

Notice this house also has a monogram of the last initial for a unique, and decorative touch.
<--------------
2.Once your guests have located your address it's nice to direct to the door you wish them to use. Many houses have multiple entrances and you may want your guests using just one entrance. Begin by anchoring your walkway with an urn of overflowing flowers(flowers greeting a guest are a universal sign of welcome). A lighted pathway with hurricane lanterns or solar lamps is great idea during the evening or special events. Monkey grass or pincushions lining the walk will also direct your guests on a daily basis.

3.Make sure the walkway, porch, & steps, are swept clean and look cared for. A clean entrance is a sure sign of a homey welcome! Glass that sparkles, cobwebs and critters chased away, are all telltale signs that the people that live just beyond the door care about their home and environment.

4.A clean, attractive doormat makes for a good first impression. Also be creative and bring some of the "indoors out", using a small inexpensive rug to soften the line between the world of outdoors & indoors!!

Change up your porch to fit the season!!!

5.Above all else, take time and enjoy your porch, there's nothing like a cheery wave to a neighbor next door or friendly chat over a glass of iced tea!

Thank you for visiting The Coffee Cottage, see you next time!!

Is your coffee & dessert holding hands or fighting for center stage?!

Have you ever had guests over and we're about to serve up a luscious chocolate, caramel ,cheesecake, and then all of the sudden......you panic.........your mind races.......you think, "I wonder if the roast of my coffee will be palatable with this dessert?!!!"
Now most of us wouldn't bother with such trivialities right? We are just glad there's something to serve our  guests and relieved the house is in half-way decent order! But in the world of coffee and food, the two really go hand in hand. So here's a tip for you to try next time you have company, or maybe to try on your unsuspecting hubby or boyfriend!!! *evil laugh*
**When serving a rich dessert such as, a German chocolate cake -compliment with a medium roast coffee.
You want your dessert and coffee to blend and compliment the other, with the dessert as the featured highlight.
**When serving a light dessert such as, a light fruit pastry or a biscotti- compliment with a very light roast.
Your ultimate goal here is to have the coffee just a little less than the dessert your serving!!!
  Have fun!!!
Stop by today to try our freshly made  shortbread-almond biscotti!!!
Until next time remember, friends don't let friends drink coffee alone!:)

It's a wonderful day at The Coffee Cottage.
Let me take you on a virtual tour around the shop.
The enticing aroma of freshly ground coffee beans teases your nose as you step in the door, there's a low hum of customers visiting over a steaming cups of espresso or tea, mixed with the soft notes of background music. In a corner on your right there's a cozy nook with some over-stuffed chairs keeping watch over the fireplace. On the hearth there's a photo album, that catalogs all the steps and fun memories The Coffee Cottage has made in it's short five months of existence (you may find your photo there in future)!!! As you move through the shop you will discover some unique things that make up the decor and atmosphere of this cozy shop.....such as my friendly tumbleweed "Turquino"aka "Turq"(which is the name of a coffee bean out of Cuba)......in the next seating area your eyes will be drawn to the large burlap coffee bags on the wall , stamped with coffee brands  from around the world....(if only they could talk)!!! After drinking the world's best coffee you may need to make a trip to the famous powder room.....I like to call this room " a cowboy's escape", due to the fact that I have a stuffed" John Wayne" in the tub, he doesn't officially have a name as of yet so you can name him anything you like, while you're visiting!! This just about completes our virtual tour for now. There's a whole lot more that I had to leave out,but I'm going to make you come and find out for yourself!!:) Thanks for visiting The Coffee Cottage:)
